The Product Media Gallery feature places your Whatmore videos directly inside the standard Shopify product image carousel — interleaved with product photos, not stacked below. Customers see the video in the same place they expect product images, on every theme that respects Shopify's product.media API.
What it does
Pushes the top-ranked Whatmore video for each product into Shopify's product media array.
Renders inline in any theme's product image gallery — no theme code, no Theme App Extension.
Slot-positioned — choose first, second, or last in the gallery.
Updates automatically when you tag, untag, or reorder videos in Whatmore.
Includes per-product visibility control so you can opt specific products out.
Why use it
Most themes can't show videos in the main product image carousel by default. Other Whatmore widgets (carousel, embed, spotlight) sit elsewhere on the page — they don't replace the hero image area. The Media Gallery does, on every theme that uses Shopify's standard product.media. That hero area carries the most attention and the most conversion impact.
Before you start
This feature needs the write_products permission to add videos to your product media. The first time you click Set up, you'll be prompted to grant it. Existing Whatmore widgets (carousel, banners) don't need this permission — it's added only for the Media Gallery feature.
Set it up
1. In your Whatmore dashboard, go to Product Pages.
2. Find Media Gallery Video in the widgets table.

3. Click Set up. If write_products isn't granted yet, this opens Shopify's permission grant flow. Approve it.
4. After approval, choose where the video should appear in the gallery:
First — video shows before any product photos.
Second — video shows after the first photo, before the rest.
Last — video shows after all photos.
5. Click Save. We push the top-ranked Whatmore video for each tagged product into the chosen slot within seconds.
The Media Gallery row in the widgets table now shows Live with the count of products receiving videos.
Manage products
To control which products receive videos:
From the widgets table, click Manage on the Media Gallery row.
2. The Products table lists every product. Flip the Shopify switch off to stop syncing a specific product. Flip it back on to resume.
3. Use the bulk-action buttons to hide or unhide many products at once.
4. Status badges (Live, Syncing, Failed) show the current sync state per product.
Reorder slot position
To change the gallery slot after initial setup:
Click Set up on the Media Gallery row again.
Pick a new position.
Save.
We use Shopify's productReorderMedia API — no re-upload happens, so this is fast and gentle on your product data.
Re-position all videos
To reposition a batch of videos or force a refresh:
Click Manage on the Media Gallery row.
Click Re-position all videos.
Pause or disconnect
To stop pushing videos without losing your setup:
Click Set up on the Media Gallery row.
Toggle Sync off.
Save. We remove videos from Shopify's product media on every previously-synced product. Your tags in Whatmore are preserved — flip Sync back on to resume.
Tips
Only the top-ranked Whatmore-tagged video per product is pushed. To change which video appears, reorder your tags in Whatmore.
Other tagged videos stay in your Whatmore library — they just don't go to the gallery slot. They still power your other widgets (carousel, embed).
The video thumbnail Shopify shows in the collection-page tile is whatever frame Shopify picks (usually frame zero). Custom poster images are coming in a future release.
Some themes show a static "second image" on hover over the collection-page tile rather than a video preview. That's a theme behavior, not something we can override from the sync side.
FAQ
Will this push multiple videos per product?
Not yet. The top-ranked video per product goes into the gallery. Multi-video support is on the roadmap.
Does this break my existing Whatmore widgets?
No — the carousel, embed, and other widgets work independently and use the same tagged videos.
What if my theme doesn't show the video?
Most themes display product.media videos automatically. A few custom themes hard-code only image rendering. If you don't see your video in the gallery after enabling, talk to your theme developer or open a chat with us.
Can I see what's about to be pushed before I enable it?
Yes — the Manage page lists every product that will receive a video and its current sync state.
