Setting up Video Answers

Turn the videos tagged to each product into an FAQ on the product page, with the clip that proves every answer. Setup, sections, answer style, publishing and adding the block to your theme.

Video Answers turns the videos tagged to a product into a short FAQ on that product's page. Shoppers see the questions they would normally ask, and every answer opens the exact clip that shows it. There is nothing to write by hand: Whatmore reads the videos, writes the questions and answers, and keeps them current as you add or retag videos.

How it works

  • Whatmore looks at every video tagged to a product (Instagram reels, uploads and creator videos) and writes the questions shoppers ask about it, with answers backed only by what the clips show.

  • Answers are grouped into sections. Shopper questions is the default section. You can add up to three themes of your own, for example "Fit and sizing" or "How to use".

  • On the product page the widget shows the sections, the questions and a short clip for each answer. The widget stays hidden on products that have no answers yet.

  • New videos and tag changes update the answers on their own. You only regenerate when you change the sections, the answer style or the guidance.

Before you start

  • Video Answers is available on all paid plans (Starter and above).

  • A product needs at least two tagged videos to get answers. Products with fewer are skipped, and the widget stays hidden on their pages.

  • If you use several product templates in your Shopify theme, you will add the block to each template that should show Video Answers.

Set up Video Answers

Step 1: Open the setup window

  1. On the Whatmore dashboard, find Product Page under Video Widgets.

  2. On the Video Answers card, click Setup. The setup window shows three steps: switch it on, generate answers, and add it to your product template.

Step 2: Switch it on

Turn on the switch in the first step. The widget renders on your store only while Video Answers is on. Switching it off later keeps your sections and answers, so switching back on is instant.

Step 3: Choose what the widget shows

Click Manage sections to open the Video Answers page. The first section of that page, What the widget shows, controls the content of every product's answers. Click Edit sections to open the list.

  1. Sections. Shopper questions is ticked by default. Tick up to three themes beside it. A theme appears on a product page only when that product's videos support it, so you can safely tick themes that only some products cover. Rename a theme to change its heading on the page.

  1. Suggest more. Click it to have Whatmore read your videos for section ideas. It takes about a minute. New ideas are marked New; tick the ones you want.

  2. Add a section. Give it a title (the heading shoppers see) and a short description that tells the writer what belongs in it.

  3. Answer style. Under Answer style and guidance, pick who the answers speak as: talk to the shopper, speak as the brand, neutral and factual, in the creators' words, or warm and casual.

  4. Guidance (optional). Tell the writer what shoppers of your products care about or what to leave out. It never lets an answer claim something the videos do not show.

  5. Click Done, then Save in the bar that appears at the bottom. Saving a change to style or guidance rewrites every answer, so the next two steps let you check the result before it goes live.

Step 4: Try it on two products

Under Try it on two products, Whatmore picks two products with tagged videos. Click Change products to pick your own, then click Generate drafts (Generate again once drafts exist). Each draft takes about a minute.

Click Preview on a product to see the widget exactly as a shopper would. If the questions or the tone are not right, go back to step 3, adjust, save and generate the drafts again. Drafts are preview only. Your store does not change until step 5.

Step 5: Publish to all products

Once the drafts read right, click Generate for all products under Publish to all products. Whatmore writes the answers of every product with at least two tagged videos. It runs in the background and takes a few minutes; the product list below refreshes as answers land.

The product list shows, for each product, the sections it has, how many answers each holds, and a status:

  • Live: showing on the product page.

  • Outdated: the answers predate your last settings change. Click Update all products to rewrite them.

  • Nothing to show: answers exist, but none of them cites a clip the widget can play.

  • No answers: the product has too few videos, or the last run failed.

Use the On page switch to hide Video Answers on a single product without deleting its answers, for example when the videos do not say enough about that product.

The setup window's Run backfill button does the same as Generate for all products.

Step 6: Add the block to your product template

Shopify stores

  1. In the setup window, click Open theme editor. It opens your live theme on a product page.

  2. In the left panel, click Add section, open the Apps tab and choose Whatmore Video Answers.

  3. Drag the section to where you want it, usually right below the product information, then click Save.

  4. Repeat for every product template you use. You only do this once per template.

The block has no settings in the theme editor. Its title, spacing and look are set on the Whatmore dashboard (step 7), so changes there reach your store without touching the theme again. On products without answers the block collapses to zero height, so it never leaves a gap.

Other platforms

Video Answers renders where the Whatmore product-page snippet sits. If the snippet is not in your product template yet, add it as described in your platform's setup article.

Step 7: Match it to your store

Go to Customizations, open Neo Configuration and scroll to Video Answers. Switch on Preview to see the widget in the phone on the right. You can set:

  • Skin: one of the ready-made looks for the widget.

  • Small heading: the line above the title. Defaults to "Shopper questions".

  • Title: defaults to "What the videos show". Leave either text empty to hide that line.

  • Space above and below: the gap between the widget and the sections around it.

  • Maximum width: on wide pages the widget stops growing here and centres.

Click Save. The change is live on your product pages within a minute.

Keeping answers up to date

  • When you tag a new video to a product, or remove one, that product's answers are refreshed automatically. No action needed.

  • When you change sections, answer style or guidance, products are marked Outdated. Click Update all products to rewrite them. Products whose videos and settings have not changed are skipped.

Troubleshooting

The widget does not show on a product page. Check, in order: Video Answers is switched on; the product's status is Live and its On page switch is on; the Whatmore Video Answers block is in the product template that this product uses; your plan includes Video Answers.

A product says "Needs two videos". Tag at least one more video to it. Answers are generated automatically once it has two.

A theme I ticked does not appear on a product. A theme only appears on a product page when that product's videos support it. The tooltip next to each theme shows how many products currently do.

I want to pause Video Answers. Switch it off in the setup window or at the top of the Video Answers page. The widget stops rendering, and everything is kept for when you switch it back on.
