Models: Creating and Managing Model Presets

Updated today

The Models section in AI Studio lets you create, save, and reuse custom AI models for your generations. Instead of picking from the standard library every time, you can build a model that matches your brand's look β€” specific age, ethnicity, body type, hair, and expression β€” and use it across all your creations.

The Models Page

Go to Models under Presets in the left sidebar. The page is organised into:

  • Recent Workflows β€” your latest model creation jobs, showing status (Completed or in progress) and thumbnail previews

  • Custom β€” models you've created yourself

  • Standard β€” the default library of 95+ models provided by Whatmore

  • Archived β€” models you've archived to keep your library clean

Each custom model card shows a preview and a "Use for creation β†’" link to jump straight into a generation with that model.

Two Ways to Create a Model

Create from Scratch

Build a model by describing exactly what you want β€” with or without a reference image.

  1. Click + Create from Scratch

  2. Optionally upload a reference image (paste a URL or upload a PNG/JPG up to 10MB) β€” this gives the AI a visual starting point

  3. Configure the Specifications (all optional β€” the more you define, the more precise the result):

Specification

Options

Gender

Female, Male, Boys, Girls

Age

Slider from 3 to 60 years

Body Type

Slim, Athletic, Average, Curvy, Plus Size

Skin Tone

Fair, Light, Medium, Tan, Brown, Dark

Ethnicity

Caucasian, Indian, South Asian, East Asian, Southeast Asian, African, Latino, Middle Eastern

Hair Texture

Straight, Wavy, Curly, Coily

Hair Color

Black, Brown, Blonde, Auburn, Red, Gray, White

Hair Length

Short, Medium, Long, Updo

Expression

Natural, Smiling, Confident, Serious, Playful

You can switch between Presets (pick from pre-defined chips) and Custom (type your own values) for each specification. Every field also has a + button to add custom entries beyond the defaults.

  1. Expand Additional Info to add any extra notes β€” e.g., "freckles on cheeks", "subtle makeup", or "angular jawline"

  2. Choose your AI model and resolution, then click Create

AI Studio generates multiple variations. Pick the one that best matches your vision.

Upload References

If you already have photos of a model you want to replicate β€” for example, a brand ambassador or a model from a previous shoot β€” you can upload reference images directly.

  1. Click Upload References

  2. Upload one or more reference images

  3. AI Studio analyses the references and creates a model preset that matches

This is the fastest way to get a consistent model if you already have visual references to work from.

Refining Your Model

After generating a model, you can refine it using the same editing chat interface used for image editing. The model creation screen includes:

Version tracking β€” each refinement creates a new version (v1, v2, v3...) so you can compare and go back to any previous version.

Iterative chat edits β€” type instructions to refine the model:

  • "@model remove face / forehead hair"

  • "@model reduce the light and reflection on the face"

  • "@model reduce the shine on the face"

Each instruction generates new variations. The AI responds with multiple options β€” for example, a matte finish, softened reflections, lower exposure, or complete glare removal β€” so you can pick the look that works best.

Explore ↔ Precise slider β€” controls how much creative freedom the AI takes. Slide toward Explore for more variation between outputs, or toward Precise for tighter results that closely follow your instruction.

Quick suggestion chips β€” the chat offers contextual shortcuts like "Fix the model face", "Improve skin texture", and "Fix hands" for common refinements.

Using a Custom Model in Creations

Once your model is saved, you can use it anywhere in AI Studio:

  • Create from Scratch β€” in the Model selection step, click "Use your models" to pick from your custom library

  • Guidelines β€” when creating a Guideline, select your custom model in the Model References section under "Use your models"

  • Models page β€” click "Use for creation β†’" on any model card to jump directly into a generation

Custom models work exactly like standard library models β€” they appear in the same selection flow and support all the same output types.

Managing Your Models

Archiving: If a model is no longer needed for current work, switch to the

Archived tab or archive it from the model card. Archived models are hidden from the main library but not deleted β€” you can restore them anytime.

Recent Workflows: The top of the Models page shows your recent model creation jobs. Click on any workflow to revisit the generation, pick a different variation, or continue refining.

Tips for Creating Effective Models

Start with a reference image when possible. A single clear reference photo gives the AI much more to work with than specifications alone. Use a well-lit headshot or portrait with a neutral background for best results.

Be specific with specifications. The more fields you fill in, the closer the output will match your intent. Leaving everything blank gives the AI maximum creative freedom, which can be useful for exploration but less predictable for brand consistency.

Refine iteratively. Don't try to get the perfect model in one shot. Generate a first version, then use the chat to make targeted refinements β€” fix the skin texture, adjust the expression, clean up the hair. Each version builds on the last.

Create one model per brand persona. If your brand uses multiple model archetypes (e.g., one for athleisure, one for formal wear), create separate model presets for each. This keeps your generations consistent within each product line.
